CPCSEA Guidelines

CPCSEA stands for Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals.

Recently the name has been revised. Now it is called

CCSEA which stands for Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals.

CCSEA is all about making things easier and more ethical when it comes to using animals in scientific experiments. They're like the superhero squad dedicated to reducing animal stress and pain during research. So, they simplify procedures and ensure a kind and compassionate approach to our furry friends in the lab. 

CCSEA is formed as per the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act 1960.

Along with PCA act 1960 several other rules are also associated the use animals such as

Breeding of and Experiments of Animals (Control and Supervision ) Rules 1998, 2001 and 2006.

The maintenance of laboratory animals in accordance with CCSEA guidelines ensures their ethical and humane treatment throughout their life in research settings. These guidelines aim to promote animal welfare, minimize pain and distress, and ensure the scientific validity of experiments. A Short Story about a Laboratory

The laboratory animals were not forgotten when it came to healthcare. 5 R's of CCSEA

The 5 R's credo of CPCSEA emphasizes the principles of reducing, refining, replacing, responsibility, and recognition in animal experimentation:

Once upon a time, there were these magical "R's" that transformed the world of animal experimentation into a fascinating tale. Let's dive into their enchanting story!

First, we have the Reduction hero. With a wave of their wand, they encouraged researchers to shrink the number of animals used in experiments. By conjuring up alternative methods and optimizing study designs, they aimed to achieve reliable results while using the fewest animals possible. It's like a magical formula for efficient research!

Next up, we meet the Refinement wizard. They were determined to make experiments as comfortable as a cozy unicorn ride. With their spellbinding techniques, they minimized any potential pain, suffering, or distress experienced by the animals. It's like adding a sprinkle of kindness to every experiment!

Then, we encounter the Replacement magician. They had a bag full of tricks to find alternative methods whenever possible. They waved their wand, and voila! In vitro models, computer simulations, and human-based research appeared, reducing the reliance on animal testing. It's like finding a secret door to a world of endless possibilities!

Our next character is the Responsible guardian. With a heart full of compassion, they emphasized the ethical responsibility of researchers, institutions, and the scientific community. They inspired a culture of care and consideration, where every experiment was conducted with the utmost respect for animal welfare. It's like a guardian angel watching over our furry friends!

And last but not least, we have the bonus character, the Rehabilitator. After animals had played their part in the research adventure, they stepped in to provide the care and support needed for their next chapter. It's like a fairytale ending, where our animal heroes get the chance to live happily ever after.

Institutional Animal Ethics Committee

IAEC, the super cool abbreviation for Institutional Animal Ethics Committee, is like the guardian angel for animals in scientific experiments. 

Their mission? 

To make sure that everything is ethical and that our furry buddies don't experience unnecessary pain or stress. These heroes review research protocols, ensuring they follow CCSEA's rules and guidelines. They keep a watchful eye on the welfare of animals during experiments, making sure they receive top-notch care and treatment. 

With IAEC around, animals can rest easy knowing they're in good hands!

IAEC is defined under Breeding of and Experiments of Animals (Control and Supervision ) Rules 1998.

Composition of IAEC

The IAEC is composed of eight members, with a majority of five members from the establishment and three external members.

The five members from the establishment consist of one biological scientist, two scientists specializing in different biological disciplines, one veterinarian responsible for animal care, and one scientist overseeing the animal facility of the establishment.

Among the five establishment members, the Chairperson of the Committee and Member Secretary are appointed.

The IAEC operates under the guidance of the establishment to uphold ethical standards and prevent any unnecessary pain or stress inflicted upon animals during experiments.

The other three members include nominees from the CCSEA, scientist from outside the institute, socially aware nominee
